For the last twenty of my forty years working in clay I applied underglaze to wheel thrown pottery. Inspired by the art pottery tradition, I painted land and seascapes on the smooth white surface... colorful nature subjects under a clear glaze fired by electricity. In 2006, a salt/soda firing workshop at the Waterdshed Center for Ceramic Arts began a new clay adventure- painting with glaze and firing with gas, soda, salt and wood, the process integrating surface design with the form and texture of clay. The results, as well as my previous underglaze style pottery will be shown in my new studio on Monhegan Island.
